Made with Care

How we care for our people and the environment

At A Deal With Care, responsible trade starts with people and ends with products built to last. As a member of Fair Trade Denmark, we operate fully on the 10 Internationally Recognized Fair Trade Principles.

We bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship in Senegal and B2B partners across Europe and North America who demand quality, transparency, and documented social impact.

Caring for People: Supporting Local Livelihoods

We build long-term, direct partnerships with independent artisans in Senegal, ensuring fair economic terms, ethical working environments, and real opportunities for growth.

  • Fair Earnings Above Market Rates: Prices are set through open dialogue to ensure artisans earn reliable, living-wage returns after material expenses. For our laundry baskets, net weaver earnings sit at approximately XOF 506/hour, 37% above Senegal’s statutory general minimum wage (SMIG) and double the agricultural minimum wage (SMAG).

  • Zero Exploitation & Voluntary Work: Production is strictly limited to registered adult artisans. Work is completely voluntary, with flexible hours that accommodate family responsibilities and local living conditions.

  • Direct Financing & Interest-Free Microloans: Artisans can request interest-free microloans for tools, living improvements, or education. Loans are repaid flexibly through finished basket deliveries without financial pressure.

  • Supporting Local Leadership: Operations in Senegal are coordinated locally by key team members, including Fatma, Anta, Fama, and Amadou, who oversee warehouse logistics, quality control, and direct artisan communications.

Caring for the Planet: Materials & Transport Efficiency

We continuously measure and optimize the environmental footprint of our supply chains:

  • Low-Impact Craftsmanship: Production is carried out entirely by hand without heavy machinery, electricity, or chemical processes.

  • 100% Biodegradable Palmyra Products: Our Lalane line utilizes locally harvested palmyra palm leaves that break down naturally at the end of their lifecycle.

  • Logistical Carbon Reduction: We use innovative “nesting basket” designs that allow sets of 4 to ship inside one another, dramatically maximizing container space, reducing freight volume, and minimizing transport emissions per unit.

  • Plastic Waste Management Progress: We source locally manufactured cord that incorporates recycled plastic. To prevent production scraps from impacting local ecosystems, we are exploring a localized plastic collection scheme with regional recycling facilities.

THE JOURNEY HAS BEEN MORE
THAN WE COULD HAVE DREAMED.
